I just finished reading The Oxford Book of Modern Science Writing by Richard Dawkins. The last selection was Carl Sagan’s Pale Blue Dot. A quick search on the internet led me to the clip below. The Pale Blue Dot in his own words.

ADDENDUM: Friday 22 May

The Shuttle Astronauts sent back an image today that I think is destined to be one of the most famous ever taken in space.

   Jennifer, It’s the sun rising over the edge of the Earth, taken from Atlantis. Is that the image you are asking about? The other picture with the pale blue dot was taken by Voyager as it passed Neptune. The Pale Blue Dot is US. Earth. Home. That little speck in the great empty dark. (But Sagan says it all so well doesn’t he).

   yes that’s the image i was talking about, and now that i know what it is, wow. that’s an amazing picture. and yes, the pale blue dot video was…..i don’t really know how to put it. heart breaking and inspiring at the same time i guess is how i felt about it. a very very beautiful video. i cried a little and i’m not ashamed to admit it
